I Know What It Is To Live with A Catoract
I know what it is like to have a cataract. When I was two years old I had fell I had I bruise half way down my face. I had the bruise for about a week until I went away. My parents did not think about the bruise that much did not think it really hurt anything because my brother had just been born. But three months later I would keep telling my mom that I could not see out of one eye. Well she did not really believe me I was two. Then one day I was watching Barney and she covered my right eye, nothing happen I was fine then she covered my left eye and I flipped out I could not see anything so that is when they took me to the eye doctor. I remember very well actually it was a small place a lot of older people I was the only kid there really. We went in the room they had to put 15v eye drops in the really see my eye. But I was so young it was hard to see what it was. That day they had thought I had cancer forming in my eye because a cataract in a young child. After a few more test and my mother’s tears it was a cataract they said surgery had to happen now because it was already at a bad stage. My mom still tells me to this day that she was sad to now for the rest of my life. And now she thinks it was the best thing ever.
So the next week went to the costal eye surgery center we meet the eye doctor his name was Dr.davison. He told my family that I was one of his youngest patients that was getting this surgery. During the surgery I had woke up two times other than that it went fine I had stitches. And one thing I can remember really from that day is having to wear those big black glasses that covered my whole face(the ones older people wear). After that every six months I was going to go in for a eye appointment they would give my drops and see how my eye was progressing I would get new glasses as my eye got better. And when I went outside my glasses would always go into sunglass mode because, the cataract does not do well in the sun. They also told me that I was going to have to patch my eye until I could use the bad eye if the good one was not there. So every day I came home from school I would have to put a patch on my glasses over my good eye. This is so I would only have my bad eye to see out of. At first I would just have to sit there and act like I am watching TV because, really I could not see the TV. But a year or two later I was riding my bike playing outside even playing softball. And well yes it was most likely weird for people to see me running around outside with a kitty cat patch one my glasses. After five years of patching they said I could stop patching well I mean not stop were glasses but the patches were gone
Right now in 2014. Well I can’t say my eye is any better but it has not gotten any worst. Well there is a difference I don’t were my glasses as much as I use to and I wear contacts on the days I have softball. But one thing that will never change for me is that in the sun my right eye will go close. I don’t know how to control it I mean it’s bad and yes, I have heard the nick names that go along with it. Also when I am 18 I will be getting the bifocal surgery instead of at the age of 20. Then something interesting about this is that Dr.Davidsoin wrote about me in a book because of my age and showing that anything can happen to anyone at anytime.
